Won't start, no sound
I figured I would ask the experts here. Just recently changed the battery, so that is good. The lights work, but when turning the key to start, no sound whatsoever. No clicks, nothing.
I was thinking starter or ignition. Is there a good way to identify exactly what the culprit is, or eliminating one or the other? Or any other suggestions? Thanks in advance! Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Won't start, no sound
have somebody check your hook up of cables to the battery for positive good contact

Re: Won't start, no sound
Use a 12V test light or voltmeter to check for power at the following locations:
(1) On the red wire feeding power to the ignition switch (should be live all the time). (2) On the purple wire at the ignition switch 'SOL' terminal (should be live when the key is turned to the 'start' position). (3) If you have an automatic trans, check for power on both of the purple wires at the neutral safety switch. One comes from the ignition switch, the other goes to the starter. Both should be live with the key in the 'start' position. If only one has power, your neutral safety switch is likely bad or out of adjustment. (4) On the purple wire at the starter solenoid. Again, this should be live with the key in the 'start' position. If not, you have a break or bad connection somewhere in that purple wire. Could be a bad connection at the firewall bulkhead connector. But if there is power on the purple wire then you likely have a bad connection where it attaches to the solenoid or a bad solenoid. |

Re: Won't start, no sound
Definitely check the neutral safety switch. I recently unhooked my battery, tore into the column, replaced some things, adjusted the shift linkage rod, and when I buttoned it all back up today, turned the key only to hear... silence. Man, I tell you that was a bummer. But, I simply joggled the shifter to make sure it wasn't the NSS, and it fired right up.

Re: Won't start, no sound
Check the small wire going from the + battery terminal to the small junction block on the pass. fender. sometimes it breaks off.
