63' Steering Column/Rod Modification
So, been looking at the different steering shaft swaps. The most common is the Jeep, but bottom line, it uses a 3/4-30 spline for steering gear side. The 63's, and I guess manual steering boxes, use 3/4-36 spline. Looking for a "Jeep" equivalent, cheap, alternative, but with a 3/4-36 spline for the OEM manual steering gear. The key here is cheap. Amazon you can get the whole Jeep piece for 100. Borgsen, CCP, and Flaming River are there but looking at 250 and upwards for a collapsible, u-jointed replacement of the rag jointed 3/4" smooth steering shaft. Dampened would be nice but not necessary. The joints themselves are in the 70, or 115, dollar range, depending on a joint or dampened joint, and then paying for collapsible rod (3/4 and 1 DD).
Ideas, thoughts, or just suck it up? Thanks in advance, Leadbelly |
