68 C50 Conversion?

Hey guys.... I recently picked up a C50, and wanted to convert it to 4x4, if possible. Not sure what the best way is, but I sure would like to figure a way to do it. I know Napco had converted some of these trucks, but those are scarce. What I really would like to do, is covert it to 1 ton but would probably have to change frame though. Thanks in advance.

Re: 68 C50 Conversion?

Might be possible to find a late model 1½ or 2 ton 4x4 truck and use those parts, but the corresponding wheel choices would look very "odd" compared to the fenders on the truck. Not to mention you'd basically have to fabricate all methods of securing the new axles to the frame, transfer cases. And yes, the frame is gigantic compared to a 1-ton, must weight at least 1000 lbs more depending on wheel base.

Not an easy road to take, for sure.

Re: 68 C50 Conversion?

I haven't had any issue sourcing driveline parts... harder is sheet metal for the body

Re: 68 C50 Conversion?

man I need a set of those locking hubs... i think I found a set of selectros for an IH axle that will fit..

yeah thats why I went to 11R22.5's (44+" dia) an RTO-9513 and a rockwell T-1138 (.73 OD) so i can cruise at 65MPH.. and if I have to I will homebrew the RTO into a RTOO and triple OD the drivline... with 7.20:1 axles ugg also remeber to size the driveshaft diameters commiserate with length and RPM
