Dealer accessory: slide out spare tire carrier - pics?
Anyone have pics of the dealer accessory slide out rear spare tire carrier? Curious to see what this looks like and how it operates. Interested as a possible add to the k1500 if someone has an available example.
Thanks, Pete

Can't help much on this but here is a clip of the 74 version to at least show what your are asking about.

Re: Dealer accessory: slide out spare tire carrier - pics?
My '72 has this accessory. My truck is really busy under the rear with that spare tire carrier as well as hitch set-up which is tied into the Bardens bumper. The exhaust guy didn't route my tailpipes the way I wanted, blaming the carrier

Re: Dealer accessory: slide out spare tire carrier - pics?
I worked in a tire store in the late 70s to early 80s. I hated where trucks had the spare but those carriers actually worked.

Re: Dealer accessory: slide out spare tire carrier - pics?
It's very possible that is the same product that GM sold.
It could be handy. It was on there when I bought the truck and I have never unlocked it. I'm not sure I got a key for it. This prompts me to look into it. I know I can't put any spare under there any bigger than the one under there now unless I remove the hitch

Ever been under one of these things in the woods trying to remove that tire with a flat on the back side with the stock jack.
Good Luck! |

Re: Dealer accessory: slide out spare tire carrier - pics?
No. Mostly on my 4wds I never carried a spare due to tires too big to mount... and what you point out. I used to carry one in the bed till I thought about it hitting me in the back of the head. I'd rather hitch a ride back home and come back with a spare. Been there, done that...more than once
