Anyone ever ran 180 degree headers?
So why I was at work I started part dreaming. I love the sound of flat crank and 180 degree headers V8's. The easiest way to get the sound is headers. So has anyone ever ran them on a 60-66 c10? I know it would be a ton of work but it would be awesome.

I love the sound of the 180* headers. Packaging would be difficult though. I've seen some do the crossovers under the engine, but that would probably hang down too low.

i believe he means fender well headers meaning the look like they are upside down basically 180 degrees flipped from your standard long tube headers .. but i have to say i have never heard a difference my self in them and long tube headers .... now some zoomies sticking out through the hood . would be really cool

180° headers are headers that connects at the collectors its a funny looking setup seen them on a few high end off road buggys and a few modded ls setups they make a very unique sound much like what youd hear outta a italian/exotic v8 car im sure theres video on YouTube of people running them....now how they would work on our trucks, that'd be tricky but with enough $$$ or fabrication skills anything is possible its just a matter of how bad you want to run them on the truck

The 180 headers are pairing cylinders that fire 180 degrees apart from each other at the collector. This brings two pipes from the other side of the engine to each collector. So you have 4 that will cross over. This helps with the scavenging and creates a unique sound with the pulses paired. You see these in dirt cars and in both street and race rear engine cars sports cars the most.

180 degree headers would 1, 4, 6, 7 to one collector then 2, 3,5,8 to the other. I took a few measurements and to get proper performance out of them, if have to cut out my firewall and dash to run them over the transmission. Or get a dry sump to make then fit under the engine. So I guess that idea is out. But it would be awesome if someone could do it.

Not very many people have even heard of them. They're pretty cool though, I like the new sound when the engine is screaming. If you could build your own, maybe running the primaries back to closer to the trans tailshaft would give more room. That would be a really long primary though.
Fender well headers are cool, but definitely not 180* headers. Chris

I remember back in the day, Sterling Marlin ran 180 degree headers on his #4 Kodak Monte Carlo, car was super fast, even Dale Earnhardt commented on them, but like everything else that's good for speed, NASCAR banned them

I think what he may be getting at is many of the newer guys refer to these trucks as C10s as if that's all there is. They ask questions as if they are specific to C10s where the answer is the same for 10-30 trucks...in other words, Light Trucks. These headers would be the same to run on a C10 as with a C20 or C30. Not everyone has C10s so why leave the others out? Just shows narrow minded thinking, which is annoying to those of broader thinking...or a C/20, C/30, K/5, K/10, K/20, C1500, C2500, C3500, K1500, or K2500

I've only seen them on rear/mid engine vehicles. There is no room in our trucks for that set up. My hooker long tubes are a p.i.t.a. To get in and out, I can't imagine those.

The C10 thing has just become a generic term. You know, like cresent wrench. It's not meant to omit the rest of the trucks.
Anyway, back on track. Here are some pics I found. The one set is from a LS engine, so the firing order is different. But it shows a couple of ideas for packaging. You don't have to have the snake nest behind the distributor. Chris

It looks like it would be possible. Honestly, I just Google image searched and found those. Would probably have to build your own, or have someone do it. But it would be pretty daing cool. Don't worry about the C10 thing. Sometimes people read too deep into small things.

I'm wanting to build 180 degree headers for my LS swapped '66. I have a F-body oil pan which is fairly shallow, and I notched the crossmember for more clearance under the oil pan. I may have to widen the notch to clear the headers though. Should sound killer between the four Weber IDA carbs, 180 headers, and the valvetrain setup to handle 8500 rpm!

That will sound amazing. Is that part of your build thread in really interested to see how you are doing it. I know it takes a lot of time away from actual fabrication to stop and take pictures, but knowing people are actually doing it has got me pretty motivated.
