Question Where does it mount?

I need some pictures of where one of the braces for my brake booster bolts to the fire wall. It's the brace ( made of U channel steel) that mounts to the lower right stud on the master cylinder, and the other end ???. I bought the PB unit complete with all the brackets and braces, to put on my truck that came with non power brakes. When I put the unit on, everything mounted up perfectly, except this brace I'm asking about. I've seen the brace in some pictures but can't see where it bolts to the firewall. Did power brake equipped trucks have an extra hole in the firewall for this brace?

Re: Where does it mount?

My truck is a 70. It came with non power brakes and steering, both of which I've added.
Thanks for the thread info. It shows me exactly what I needed to know. I don't have the lower mount hole on my firewall, so I'll have to drill one. It'll be easy, since id have my inner fender wells out right now. Thanks again

Re: Where does it mount?

Just some good info for all. If you're going to do the brake conversion from non to power, and you're using a donor set up, make sure you get ALL of the brackets and mounts, since to my knowledge, nobody makes them aftermarket

Re: Where does it mount?

More often than not, if you line up the bracket in the approximate area there will be a dimple in the firewall

Re: Where does it mount?

Thanks, my plan is to loosely mount the top end, and see where it touches the firewall, and as you say, there should be a dimple for a mount. Again thanks for the info

Re: Where does it mount?

I don't believe those braces were used before 1971 along with disc brakes.

Re: Where does it mount?

Sorry if I am hijacking this tread. I am doing the same swap on to a 68. Are the brackets really needed?

In LockDoc's attachment I see someone asked the same question with no answer. My plan was to run with out the brackets but maybe it is a bad idea. I do have the brackets but want a cleaner look.

curious also... Also, the 67 and 68 cabs are different in this area. The fuse panel and e-brake are in different locations than the later model years. One of the braces goes to the back of one of the bolts from the e-brake on the 69-72 years. This brace ends up about where the back of the fuse panel is on the 67-68. I'm trying to find a way to brace it on my truck (68 setup) but haven't found it yet. Plus there would really be no structural integrity built into the firewall for the brace end. Also wondering if its really needed. I've seen lots of pics of added units without any noticeable bracing.

As I stated in post 9 above they were not used until 1971 if I recall correctly. Also, member davepl added them to his 1970 when he changed to discs and asked where they attached. Are they needed? I've never had a problem in the 47 years I've owned my 69. I don't know if they were deemed necessary because of the addition of disc brakes. I think the booster was then mounted with a slightly different main bracket and may have been larger/heavier. Or, maybe GM did it to fix a problem. Mine didn't have them, so I wouldn't add them unless I did a disc brake conversion using factory 71/72 parts.

Re: Where does it mount?

I have had a booster on my truck for the last 8 years without the braces and have had no issues. I converted from manual to power, drum brakes. I don't think they are needed. I bought a set but never installed them, so I have a set if anyone is looking.

Re: Where does it mount?

Just a little additional info on these braces...

There were apparently 2 lengths of the U-channel brace based on those pictured below. As I recall, I got the longer one off a 3/4 ton in the junkyard and the shorter one off a 1/2 ton. Probably due to a larger booster for the 3/4.
