1970 c10 front brake cylinder removal

Well I decided to replace my brake cylinders and hoses, but alas I've hit a snag. The bolt that holds the cylinder on will NOT break lose. I noticed a little tab behind the bolt and tried to manipulate it to see if that helped but it didn't. I sprayed some liquid wrench on it and gave up...

Any suggestions? This is driving me bonkers!!!!!

I had the same issue with mine. I went to harbor freight & bought the impact wrench
on sale for $39.99. After banging on the nut with that impact wrench with no luck, I used a 1/2 inch breaker bar (rachet) and slipped an 8 foot long steel pipe (fence pole) over the breaker bar and after reefing on it finally broke it loose. Once it busted loose, it came right out.

Yes, there are no bolts on the back and the replacement seems to indicate that this is where it is removed

Re: 1970 c10 front brake cylinder removal

Im doing mine this week also. Make sure all those tabs are away from the nut. Use a 6 point socket with 1/2" drive breaker bar. Heat with a small torch and use marvel mystery oil, mine did break loose.

Im looking forward to trying new brakes. Tired of the pull to the right then to the left. I didnt splurge for the ceramic shoes, but did goe with napas ultra premium brake shoes.

yep, time to break out the "Fire Wrench" those bolts on most trucks rarely, if ever get loosened.
Good luck, and if it does break, just buy you some dropped spindles and go with the disc brakes swap

This bolt does need to come off to get the wheel cylinder out but it does not hold it in. There are two smaller bolts that go in from the back side into the wheel cylinder itself. You may have to scrape the crud off the back to find the heads but they are there. I just replaced mine on my 70 chevy a couple months ago. Good luck with the process.
