fuel cell access through bed

For those of you with fuel cells mounted UNDER the bed between the frame rails , what are you using for access to fill er up!!

I don't want to just cut a rectangular hole in the bed and attach some hinges and it look messed up

Is there a plate I can purchase to weld into the bed floor?

Something preferably locking to prevent fools from messing with my tank

Re: fuel cell access through bed

We used an access door designed for a newer F350 that I found on Summit Racing. I believe they make a locking version too.

That door looks good. I may be stealing that idea if I decide to ditch the hinged tail light on my '01.

Unfortunately I don't have any install pics. I know my buddy did quite a bit of work around the area to make it look "factory". The door is counter sunk into the bed floor a little bit. We took out four of the the decorative screws, tapped the holes all the way through and replaced with some longer ones going down through the bed that I found at Lowe's.

Here's a locking version of the door: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/asm-6058kl/overview/

Re: fuel cell access through bed

So it looks like there is a plate that was welded and the door mounted to the plate. Then work around the factory ribs.
Thank you for the link as well. I like the look of that a little better

Re: fuel cell access through bed

The work done to the bed floor is what makes that look so nice. cutting a hole and mounting the door is a no brainer. very nice work.

Re: fuel cell access through bed

I'd like to do a blazer or suburban tank on my C20 and then run the filler forward to the door in my utility bed just behind the wheel well. Anyone do this? Or I could put the filler in one of the boxes I guess but that might be awkward.

Might look at these as well. They aren't as easy for anyone just walking by to open.

I have one in my 76.
