Re: What Do You Think?

White, GMC, Volvo. We still have one with a Detroit and 10 spd we use as a site dump truck.

Maybe that south America one is a Chevrolet Volvo.

Re: What Do You Think?

I'm just glad that a new medium duty with a Bowie on the front will be available again. My experience with the Duramax/Allison combo in pickups has been outstanding, so I like it!

Re: What Do You Think?

That's what I think. It's a good thing no matter what. Beats having nothing. I was always proud that GM was able to hang in longer than Dodge and Ford. GMC was always in a class apart from them. After all, GM made diesel engines (that went in Dodges and Fords)

Re: What Do You Think?

I never understand what the decisions are based on, but the world has changed right in front of our old eyes.

I would like to see GM produce a medium duty again. We have some but they all have Cat power, which is fine, but a Detroit would be cool. I love the Detroits in our heavy duty trucks and they are made by Diamler. I think a medium duty with a Duramax/Allison would be great. I would like to see a Duramax with a 9 speed behind it.

Re: What Do You Think?

Doesn't Duramax build a larger engine than offered in light trucks? I thought I read that. GM getting rid od Detroit and Allison didn't help their truck building ability any. So Larry, you have trucks with the newer 4-stroke Detroits, Series 60?Now Cat doesn't even do truck engines while Paccar started. Never heard anything on those good or bad

Re: What Do You Think?

No larger Duramax that I know of. We only have one in a K2500. We put a tuner on it when it was new (can you say hot rod) but it blew a head gasket at 90,000 miles. Under warranty. It has over 200,000 with no more problems.

The Duramax LML makes more HP than a 3126 Cat with about the same torque. I seems to me it would make a great medium duty power plant with either a stick or Allison.

We have a Chevy C6500 with a 3126 Cat and an Allison. It is a great little dump truck as long as you drive it like you are mad at it.

We have 4 Allison Transmissions and have never had a problem with them.

We have six 60 Series Detroits. I like them. They are smooth and economical and low maintenance. We have one in an L9000 Ford in the shop now getting an in frame and it's going to be cheaper than a Cat to overhaul.

We only have two Cummins still running. I like them but it just hasn't been in the cards to buy one.
