Crazy Fig is at it again with the A.D.D.

Ok, my boss is selling me some wheels that will fit my truck.

I'm trying to figure out how to achieve this look. The problem is that i'm pretty sure no one has done this before.

I would like to use these wheels.

AND, I would like to use these center caps

The problem i'm having, is that the wheels are take-offs from a Toyota Tacoma. Finding a proper fitting center cap is difficult, so I opted to use those center caps.

The trouble I think i'll have, is that the caps are retained by means of the lug nuts. If the cap doesn't quite reach the lug nuts because of the inner diameter wheel clearance, then can you guys offer a suggestion as to what to do to cover the center hub?

I'm killing two birds with one stone if I can make this work...Engine RPM, and I can sell my existing tires to pay for new tires for my wife's car.

Re: Crazy Fig is at it again with the A.D.D.

aren't those held on w/ a special lug nut that has threads on the end? can you just make those longer if they don't reach?

I am thinking , 2 sets of nuts, and weld the new set to the end of the others?

Re: Crazy Fig is at it again with the A.D.D.

I've seen them on rally wheels. Yes they need the special nuts. Can someone verify the lug nut size, I think it's 7/16",(I verified it myself 7/16"x20). They look snug against the rim in this picture,

Re: Crazy Fig is at it again with the A.D.D.

the late model lug nuts that the black plastic nuts screw to are metric
so you would need to change the studs to metric .
another idea is no caps just some chrome bullet lug nuts like these .
I put these on I couple of my old hotrods that I have.

I don't know which would be correct for those type of cap.

Re: Crazy Fig is at it again with the A.D.D.

Figuarus do the edges hit the rim before it gets deep enough to attach?
How close does it come to fitting?
If they didn't have the plastic chrome you could possibly trim the edge back a little. It wouldn't take much of the smaller but it you could get it about 1/4" or so deeper. I think the plastichrome would flake off it you tried.

Slowbuild, thats almost exactly the look im going for.

I dont have the cap yet, but should hopefully have one in the next day or so. Once i have it, ill know more, but if it doesnt ill have to find a way to make them work, or find a chrome push through cap.

Re: Crazy Fig is at it again with the A.D.D.

OK, Well, got the tires mounted and on the truck.

I'm gonna go by a place that may have what I need after work.

Either way,

This is starting to look better...

Re: Crazy Fig is at it again with the A.D.D.

You could run a push through bullet with bullet lugs. Gives a similar look to spider caps.

not sure those will work.

When I did mine, I used a nut that was 7/16-20 for the internal thread and a metric thread on the outside. I got mine from Stockton wheel at the time, not sure if they would be a local buy or not.

Those e-bay ones don't specify the other thread size and they should if they are conversion nuts.

Just did I quick search most guys with 6 lug Are using pushthru center caps. Also you can use baby moons or another type of hub cap and attach the threaded bullets to it. Like they do on the lead sleds.

The outer thread for the cap nuts is the same on all of them

I guess we will find out soon. I just ordered a set of 24 7/16". I have a set of the same caps, except mine aren't chrome, that I'm going to use with my rallies.

Let us (me) know as I am thinking about getting some of the nuts also, just been slow at researching them lately.

Re: Crazy Fig is at it again with the A.D.D.

They work. I think the plastichrome caps would look better. I like these because they aren't as tall as the old caps so it makes the wheel look deeper in my opinion. They do look more bulky but I like them.
