Re: 3/4 ton back half build

Worked on frame shortening today. Cut frame, then cut foot step sections out. Frame is prepped. Need to do a little more measuring, don't want to f this up. Working next few days then should have this frame all welded up this weekend. Will get K member welded in then box the frame in.

Re: 3/4 ton back half build

Ok I've done quite a bit more. I've tried posting pictures through my cell but it won't allow me to attach pictures so I'm late

Got the frame all welded back together. Measure 23 times then welded nice and straight.

Started mocking up the k-member from Art Morrison which came with 2 driveshaft hoops to weld between kmembers. Will make tranny mount that attaches to this.

Got the frame out in the driveway and the sandblaster out. Blasted the entire inside of the c-frame. After the frame is completely boxed and all welded up will coat the inside of the frame

Re: 3/4 ton back half build

Got the k-member cut down and welded in place. Will need to cap off the rear as it sits lower then the crossmember. Will be cutting out the center for driveshaft clearance

Started mocking up the Dropmember from Porter Built. This thing is stout. After its done being mocked up, I will start marking the frame where it needs cut and modified more for the Dropmember to be welded in and smoothed. Going to cut out the old shock mounts. Also need to cut the frame for the rack pinion.

Re: 3/4 ton back half build

Hadn't got too much more done but thought I'd post some progress. Been busy with work, and my Dodge. I bought a 2001 Dodge 1500 last year. It had hideous bed rails, bed caps that were warped, and a factory bed liner that had a big hole in the middle for a gooseneck hitch. Who the hell puts a gooseneck in a 1500, I don't know. Problem was all the nasty crap that got under the plastic liner through that center hole, deer blood etc.
So ditched the bed rails, bed caps, tube nerf bars that were rusted. Removed the plastic bedliner. Then found the hitch was bigger than I thought with the hitch welded to a large 1/4" sheet. Removed that and cleaned up the bed. Went to local pull a part with cordless sawzall and went to town on a dodge in the junkyard cutting out center of the bed. Welded that in, pulled out some other dents and sent the truck to Line-X. Line-X did in excellent job and you would never know there was a big hole in that bed or that there was a goose neck.

Re: 3/4 ton back half build

Started cutting the frame up to prep for the Dropmember to be welded in. The big holes in the frame are where the old shock mounts were and the emergency cable pass throughs. Had two holes to fill that I cut for the old headers. Two triangle pieces to fill an indent in the frame. Also cut the holes for the rack notch and got those tacked in. Total of 11 holes in the frame with 9 patch panels. Got all patches made just need to tack in and weld smooth. Hope to get this done on next days off.

Still working out a few issues with PorterBuilt, trouble with ball joints but hope to get it worked out soon. They've been really great dealing with so far
