No spark..I've already searched lol
Dont flame me too much lol.. Just got this none running rig for $400. It is a 98 Chevy 1500 2wd with the 4.3 5spd. anyway, she wont start. I've got fuel @ 58psi , 5VDC at the crank shaft sensor, a new distributor/shaft and cap. Figuring the coil was the issue, I bought another only to return it. Then i thought maybe it was security issue, but the light is not blinking....and when i 'do" try to fire it up, it comes on and then goes off in the Key ON Engine OFF position. 1 caveat... the guy I got it from had a breathalyzer and it was removed when he bought his new dodge...Supposedly, it ran, but only with the accelerator....it could not idle. Now I've got nothing. sorry for the long post, but would love to get this thing running!

I would start with wiring under the dash around where the breathalyzer was mounted. Maybe the splice didn't take when it was removed.

No start diagnosis begins with testing fuel pressure and volume, spark, and injector pulse. 99.5% of the time those tests will lead you in a direction. The other .5% will be mechanical

Agreed, I have a new distributor/cam position sensor, Crankshaft sensor tested ok...I turned the motor over with a wrench and produced 5 VDC. on the output wire. I also have 12vdc at each of the coil plugs. Next I am going to check the spider plug for pulse.. Correct me if I am wrong. Thanks for the info!!

Re: No spark..I've already searched lol
if you have no spark at the COIL, then one of 3 things is happening...
1. coil is bad 2. Ignition module is bad 3. The Ignition module is never being told by the ECM to fire...

Gator! thank you for the info. I think I have to go with 3 of your answer. At this point am I inspecting the wire harness? With a led light back probed to the coil wires I spun the motor. the last test did not produce a flash. from what I read, this concluded either the PCM is bad, CPS is bad or the signal wire is broken... |
