need new rearend +

New member here

Hello, I have a 68 GMC 3/4 ton 4x4 that has 4.56 gears, tooo low and also the rear end is damaged and needs replaced. I am looking for a set for front and back of something in the 3.08 range for gears. I hope to find some bolt on parts such as a whole tube from tire to tire, but what ya got? 1/2 ton ok, will trade my parts as well.

help

anyone got advice? heres more questions...How high would I want to rev a 250 I6 at freeway speeds for hours, 3200 ok? How about a 350cu in, 3200 ok?

i know that my 250 does fine at 3200. and i might have a rear end but it isn't posi and i want to think that it is 3.73. No sure. but i know it's 3.something. sswj

well

I6 is whats in it, if i can do 65 mph at 3200rpm maybe I'll be ok with 4.56's. I got my stats from the site

thats what i have in mine a 250 I6 4.56 rear 3 in the tree. i think i'm fine. but it does suck the gas. i can do about 75 at 3400.

ya its 3/4 ton, does that matter?
what about a 350, should they run @ 3200 on a freeway?

looking at keeping my front and getting another 4.56 from a yard then. What kind of milage did you get with your I6? 13mpg? 10?

I have a 350 in a 2wd that gets 15 average but it might be 4.11 gears.

Trucks... I'm a little speed demon and I turn my 327 at 3000 for hours when traveling. I have 3.08's and that puts me at ~80-83mph (th350 tranny). I will get ~12mpg at this speed. I don't see a problem at all for turning a 350 at 3200, and don't see one if your spinning the 6 at the same speed... WIND IT UP!

Trucks,4.56 ain`t very good highway gears. A 3.07 Dana 61 would be much better. The Dana 44 front would only need a gear change. Work involved but worth it. I`m running a Dana 61 with 3.07 and locker in my 70 C-20. Later Willis
