The distributor and coil are specific along with the added external amplifier and engine harness. All the basics you need to know are in the factory service manual, starting in section 6Y-19. Parts availability is probably your biggest issue.

Wait there was an ignition option on our trucks?

Not an option for our trucks, but was an option in cars from the era. Specifically some of the Corvettes had it. So "period correct".

Re: 1068 k20 transistorized ignition?

it was available as a over the counter gm accessory for most models of Chevrolet. I am adding it to my 67. here are pictures of the components. basically the forerunner to hei. A breakerless ignition system. it also sometimes included a transistorized voltage regulator as seen here.

Re: 1068 k20 transistorized ignition?

very interesting, I thought my trucj had the transistorized ignition but it might be the voltage regulator.

so.... the transistorized ignition was NOT available other than an over the counter dealer installed item?

and what about the voltage regulator?

parts for either option available through corvette repro vendors or what?

Re: 1068 k20 transistorized ignition?

The Corvette/Camaro guys have parts and ebay has parts but they aren't cheap. When I got my distributer it was for a higher hp engine and I had to have the weights changed to my horse power. I also had it rebuilt and new bushings in the shafts at that time. You will need to do some homework to find the proper parts to fit your application but it can be done.

I had one on a 70 LT-1, it was factory on that car. I do have the GM test kit for the TI that my local dealership was throwing away. Lucky find.
