Appalachians ??
Looking to go sight seeing to the appalachians. Anyone have any experiences they can pass on to me?

I don't know where you were going, The appalacians are a long ridge. If you are just gathering info I like the Skyline drive in VA. It parallels I81 and has great views of the valleys. It has been a long time since I've been down there, A long drive through the woods. Monticello is just off the end of the abit south of the bottom of the drive.

not sure where I am going !
I told my mom I would take her somewhere out of state to get her out of the house. I was thinking she would want to go to FL or somewhere warm, but she wants to see the "Appalachians".
Not knowing a thing about them, I said, OK. Where are they? This gives you some kind of idea the level I am on. LOL

The mountain range runs fro ME to GA, look up Appalachian Trail on the net. There is a part of the country refered to asAppalachia .

Ok, here is a idea. Look up 'Red River Gorge' also look at Kentucky State Parks. There are several in the Mountions. Red River Gorge is hiking trails, camping if you want.
Caves? Carter Caves State Park. has 3 caves that they give tours of. Close to the KY/WV border (far East KY on I64). Ky has a lot to offer.....Several tourist from MI come down in the Summer to our lakes and parks. Its not a terrible drive from MI, just down I75 ..... |

The Great Smoky Mountains is part of the Appalachians in Tennessee. Not sure what you are looking to do but Gatlinburg and the surrounding areas have everything you might want. Cades Cove is a great place to see the mountains. You can get to the Southern entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway if a scenic drive is what you want. There are plenty of sites covering all of this... let us know where you decide to go

not sure where your looking to go, but I live in the heart of the Appalachian, Mts! it's so nice up here in Northern NH, lots of nice views, places to hike ect! one of the best times to visit up here is in the fall when it's peak foiliage.

If you want to venture across to the Carolina's, the Blue Ridge Parkway is a nice place to cruise and take pictures. Boone is the place to be, Stop by the Boone Bagelry and have the best bagels on earth, LOL. If you come back after summer you can get the best apples on earth too

FYI--the Blueridge Pkwy. can become a little tiresome--35mph speed limit. Some people speed, but what's the point of getting on it then? The Glendale Springs exit is a nice stop for meals and tourist trinkets. Get a NC map from your local C of Commerce. Late May/Early June best time.
Hope you're not coming looking for trucks!

yeah the 45-70 is only good for about 250 ,but the can is an oil drum ,, leaves a really nice hole though hehe 400 grain hollow point ,, ouch!!!! lol

All of the mountains in West Virginia, Virginia, Tenn., Kentucky is worth seein'. Blue Ridge Pkwy is one of the best drives you'll ever take.In W Va get a map and pick a route. Take a week and just drive it will be worth it.

I really like the Blue Ridge Parkway, there are lots of things to see. If you get into Asheville, pick up an "Iwanna" magazine. There are trucks in there for sale usually.
If you go down I 75 toward Tennesee, take 25E toward Morristown and you will pass within a few miles of the world famous "Christians Classic Trucks". There is a lot to see in East Tennessee and Western North Carolina. Virginia, West Virginia, and Kentucky have nice scenery too. I believe you better plan on a month trip! Jim |
