Those may or may not work if you are running a manual trans.

Re: 283 & 327 for one low price!

283 came out of a 64 chevelle sat in barn most of its previous life last tag said 79
Motor is "stuck" and I know 1 valve didn't return when smacked with hammer
Hoping its going to be a ring and not a crank bearing
Most bolts so far are coming off easy(2 carb studs.towards front. are all by gone but threads in nuts)
And only 2 on intake that are rusted 1 of which I can hopefully get and Not have to cut n deal with
I'm hoping it will be a simple take apart, mild checking(replacing if needed) but wishing for a simple honing and rings ..probably machine the seats/guides for unleaded
Definitely need another carb

Powerpack heads?
Turbo-fire?

if that motor has been out in the elements and sitting the long ? trust me on this . take your time pull it apart take the block down to the machine shop get her hot tanked clean all oil ports put in new freeze plugs get the crank cleaned up . buy new bearings rod and crank buy a new oil pump .. and yes get the heads done for unleaded gas also a nice re surface .... since that 327 is such a rare breed you want to do it right and make it last

X2 on Wolfmans comments. Tank it and get everything clean in those water jackets.

Re: 283 & 327 for one low price!

283

All bolt so far have came off without struggle
Heads n intake already off
Will take pics of piston heads n such tomorrow

Had water in oil pan but still had prob 4qts oil On Top of that
Got it to move via screwdriver n hammer to the flywheel

Will motor turn by starter if bolted on?? (probably make small portable start stand)

Re: 283 & 327 for one low price!

I would open up the 327 too .
if your going to spend the money to build a engine in that condition
I would put the money in the 327 before putting that much money in the 283.

Re: 283 & 327 for one low price!

Tomorrow I'm going to put things back on 283 and swap it out on the stand for the 327
Try to start to tear it apart or at least soak bolts in ATF for a day

While taking it apart I'm Going to get a 250 piston and swap out my #1 on my I6
Question?? I can take mounts, clutch bar to block, and trans mounts loose (or off) and tilt the engine up enough to get oil pan off and get to #1 rod bolts, yes??
Still has power , psi is always around 20 warm and she doesn't get hot but damn she smokes like a freight train
Should be ordering piston in this next couple days to swap out next sun n Mon hopefully
