Re: '65 Chevy C30 Dually

Well it has been a bit since I updated this forum..

When I brought the parts truck home

It is a 1986 GMC Sierra 3500 that the previous owner had sitting on his property for a year.

Spare 350 4 bolt main motor the owner had threw in.

Re: '65 Chevy C30 Dually

I knew what I wanted to keep off the truck after taking inventory from it. I also did not want it to sit in my driveway and be an eye sore to the neighbors longer than it needed to be. So off to Craigslist I went posting parts from the truck. The first piece that went was the front clip. The second piece was the flatbed.

Removing the flatbed and prepping for pickup

Okay maybe the neighbors won't mind for the front lawn ornament for 20 minutes.

Re: '65 Chevy C30 Dually

I had a buyer all lined up for the cab and the frame. So with a deadline quickly approaching, I began to remove the suspension components to set aside until a later date.

Numerous piles of this I had to clean up after some banging

Re: '65 Chevy C30 Dually

At this point, I finally sold everything off the parts truck I didn't need. It was time to remove the drivetrain out of the '65. I was planning on selling the drivetrain and front suspension to fund some of the motor purchase.

Getting ready to remove

Removed and ready for someone's project

Re: '65 Chevy C30 Dually

This weekend we removed the flatbed for Budman56. My intentions are to put a later model flatbed on this truck with a headache rack. I am glad to see this flatbed will go to a great home.

Re: '65 Chevy C30 Dually

Updating the thread. I have been making good headway.

I started to prep the truck to pull the rear end and swap out the leaf springs from the '86.

Removed the rear end.

I put up the 14 bolt to see what it would be like. Even though I could have just swapped it in, I decided install the '86 leaf springs and remove the '65's.

With that in mind, I had already sold the '86 frame and needed to source leaf spring hangers. A quick search on Craigslist and I found someone who was parting out a '87 K30. After a few text messages, it was mine. It was kind of funny, he thought removing the rear leaf spring hangers would be a breeze and would only take an hour. When I arrived, he had removed two rivets in an hour and was amazed how difficult it was. A torch and some muscle and I had the whole rear end.

After more than an hour...

Re: '65 Chevy C30 Dually

It was amazing the amount of crap behind the mount

Finally had one side installed.
