Sun visor install
I bought some sun visors from LMC, which are crap quality btw. The screws for the brackets strip right through the cab b/c they are too small, and the paint on one of the brackets was peeling.
Anyway, I went to install them, thinking it should be straightforward. There was about a 3" rod that came with each visor bracket, Im not sure what that was for.. And when I slid the visors onto the long rod on the bracket, they are loose and just hang straight down. Am I missing something really obvious here?

Re: Sun visor install
I don't have the answer but am curious about it, too. I need to buy some new ones. Was looking at LMC black ones (because of price only), but sounds like they're not that good? Guess I'll check the board vendors (as I should've).

Re: Sun visor install
You may have to use vise grips to squeeze/crimp the metal sleeve inside the visor (without the rod being in) . This should make the sleeve smaller and help tighten it up. Or you could put some tape on the rod prior to putting it in the visor.

Re: Sun visor install
I bought some visors from GMC Paul's which were TOP QUALITY! Probably the nicest aftermarket part that I have put on.
I know I just had to pull the crap out of my old ones to get them off the rod, then slide the new ones back on. When I realized how bad of shape my old ones were in anyhow, and that I wouldn't ever use them again, I preceded to cut them off when I realized how hard they were to pull off. The new ones slid on easily with a little lube. DLB |

Re: Sun visor install
I have multiple sets of visors--most colors available--all original --no junk. Most of the new visors are not near the quality of the originals. If you kind of bend the visor before installing on the rod, you will get some friction which will help. If interested in nice originals, let me know what color and I will post them for sale on the board with your id as first option. Huck

Re: Sun visor install
I was looking for black ones. Didn't want to ask, since I'm not a supporter...yet. Will be before much longer. This place is great.

Re: Sun visor install
Yes pull the visors off of the rods and then squeeze the spring steel material inside to get a tighter fit. The three inch rod is for the outer end of the visors. A lot of the older trucks had a plastic hook mounted for the rod to sit in when the visors were aligned to the windshield. This kept the damn things from hanging down in your face.

Re: Sun visor install
just got used passenger visor n rearview mirror
Even looking at it i realized the rod Did Not go all the way to the end of the bent metal that slides on it The extra 3" bars in guessing are to fill that in I'd be up for a pair of those 3" rods |
