Re: L.E.D. dash lights
will these also work with a warning light dash (no gauges) ?

Re: L.E.D. dash lights
Yes, the cluster back-lighting is basically the same for gauge & warning light clusters. The bulb count & location vary, but electrically they're the same.
However, you have to watch out for the polarity if you're using LEDs to replace the actual warning lights. The "oil", "hot", and "cold" lights all have ignition power fed to one side of the bulb. And the switches on the engine ground the other side to illuminate the bulbs. If the polarity of the LED is backward compared to how the socket is wired they won't work. Also, an LED probably won't work correctly in the "gen" light because that one is wired in parallel with a 10Ω resistance wire. |

Re: L.E.D. dash lights
If you want dimmable LED's, usually the best way is to use strip lights. You just have to run them around the inside and stick the wires out one of the holes, then seal it all up. Hook up the power and ground and you'll have LED's that work on the dimmer switch.
Also strips will help eliminate any 'hot spots' or areas around the bulb that appear brighter than the rest of the cluster. No pics as I haven't done mine yet... |

Re: L.E.D. dash lights
I got a set of LED's from the suggested ebay vendor all the bulbs worked except the turn signal inicator light only works for "right" I switched it back to the original bulb and both sides work. I tested the wires they both work. Is it a matter of getting a specifically designed LED bulb? or is that just a bad bulb?

The single indicator is wired across the left & right signal light wires so the active signaling side is positive and the inactive side provides the ground. As a result, the polarity at the indicator bulb changes with the direction. And as I mentioned earlier, LED's (being diodes) are polarity sensitive so that's why yours is only working when indicating a right turn. Now, there is such a thing as a bi-polar LED that will light up with current flowing in either direction. It's basically two LED's connected anti-parallel inside the same package. Many of them are bi-color as well, lighting up red in one direction and green in the other for example. However, I'm not sure if anything like this is available in a package that will plug directly into your existing indicator socket. But you might want to check with the vendor where you bought your LED's to see if they do happen to offer one. Something like that would be perfect for that type of single indicator application. |
