Maiden voyage

For the first time since 1981 my 66 GMC moved under its own power today. Got the rear end swapped out, found out what needs replaced such as hoses and whatnot. Even hooked up my thermostat and it still worked. Here's a picture of her out on a dirt road by the farm. Now to take it into town and detail it up head to toe. Something about hearing these old things start up after several decades that kinda makes it worth it

Re: Maiden voyage

Thanks for the kind words! I drove her to town today to my shop. Speedo read 50mph but i slowed down a but since the brand new old tires from 1980 with tubes are a lot weather checked. And yeah you can see for a looooong ways out here where I am from. Getting attached to the power steering, brakes and automatic. Makes it real easy to drive! Ill post some more as I get it cleaned up. The original owners wife, whom i bought it from, wants to see it once I get it cleaned up, she got very sentimental when i bought it.

Re: Maiden voyage

IF they are bias tires I would not worry much BUT if they are radials I would NOT sneeze around them .. they Don't need a reason to explode

Re: Maiden voyage

They are bias plys. Took the cluster out and cleaned the dirt off of the bulbs and replaced a couple. Also got the buffer out and did part of the hood..the old red doesn't clean up too bad. Thank god for being stored inside all that time
