76 K10 Detent Cable Length

I have a 76 K10 350/350 and noticed a leak where the detent cable bolts to to the trans. Prior to this I had replaced the cable a few years ago, but noticed a lot of slack in it even after being adjusted properly at the carb. It never really functioned properly after that. I figured if I need to remove the cable again to fix the o ring, I might try to get a shorter detent cable. Does anyone know what the length would be or a rough estimate? I think the one I have now is universal which is why it is longer.

Re: 76 K10 Detent Cable Length

Good question. Looks like there is a 40" and a 45" available but neither seem to fit mine correctly. Even adjusted all the way in, the slot where the carb slides is too long to work properly with both cables. Is that the problem you are having?

Yeah, basically the detent doesn't work at all, there is no kickdown, and the cable is adjusted all the way in as you said. It seems like it has too much slack when sitting on the carb it is almost loose compared to others I have seen.

Re: 76 K10 Detent Cable Length

I have seen sizes range from 40 to 49" for the universal one, literally every parts store or place online I have looked has a different length listed. I am pretty sure I have the universal one which is way too long, but I want to make sure I get the correct length this time around.

Cable length is not the important part. The way it mounts to the throttle and the cable mounting bracket on the engine end determine which cable you need. the cable could be 10 feet long and still work. It is the part from the attaching point on that makes a difference. Pictures of what you have would help.

Re: 76 K10 Detent Cable Length

The trans to carb distance never changes so they should be all the same length. It sounds like you may have the wrong bracket.
