70 C30 Brake upgrade

I'm looking into upgrading the front brakes from drum to disc. Anyone know of any ideas or kits that might work?

Use the disc from the 73 to 87 just as the C-10 guys do the action is the same just bigger and lots heavier. You also could do the 71-2 swap but you have a much better change finding the 73-87 more coverage that way. Good luck. Jim

Square body factory parts are the way to go.

Hopefully you have a brake booster now (J70), but if not then that or a Hydroboost would be a great addition as well.

Re: 70 C30 Brake upgrade

Exactly ^^^. I did my 69 flatbed last summer, I kept the upper and lower control arms. Sourced the rest from a 77...... spindle out.... along with the steering links. It all bolted right up. I did have to have rubber brake hoses made b'cuz of the different fittings on the frame. Rotors were/are thicker than the 71-72 style

It's a factory power brakes so I figure I'll need an new proportioning valve. I'm trying to find a 73-87 one ton to use as a donor.

Re: 70 C30 Brake upgrade

I swapped the complete crossmember of a 73 2wd blazer. Had my share of problems, but now the brakes are where I want them to be

Re: 70 C30 Brake upgrade

Just did this swap from 78 C30 onto my 71 C 20 .work great, like its made for it. Having a hard time finding new dust/backing plates though. Old one's from the donor were pretty rusty.

Re: 70 C30 Brake upgrade

I used a 1975 c30 for my 1967 c30. It was a hydro boost system, works extremely well.

Re: 70 C30 Brake upgrade

I just bolted this up from a 1980 C30. Used a 1972 c30 brake booster,master cyl with correct bracket. Proportioning valve was from a 1985 k5 blazer.

Re: 70 C30 Brake upgrade

I would say add hydroboost, it's not that much work, and the brakes work SO MUCH BETTER than vacuum brakes
