Need help identifying steering box

Had an issue pop up when i backed it out the steering box started leaking around the end.
I am unsure if this is a 1966 or 1985 box?
It is on a 1966 Suburban
The front rack is off of a 1985 c10, so i am unsure about the steering box.

It has 85 stamped into the end. Not sure if this means 1985 or something else.

Re: Need help identifying steering box

I figured out it is defiantly from the 80's.

Is the small gap in the seal supposed to be there?

That's not a seal, that's a snap ring and yes it should be there.

As for the year, the boxes look the same between the Inverted Flare style and the Metric style (which uses o-rings). Easiest way I know of is looking at the line fitting. Pinch the return line close to the hardline on the box and unscrew the hardline. If it has an o-ring, it's the later Metric style. If none, then its an Inverted Flare style.

We were given two ears and one mouth for a reason... listen twice as much and speak half as often...

Thanks,

It is leaking out of the gap in the snap ring.
