12 bolt rear end carrier assy. Question

Will the positraction unit out of a 1965 - 12 bolt truck rear end, fit a 1972 - 12 bolt truck rear end? Thanks, Dennis

Re: 12 bolt rear end carrier assy. Question

I don't think the spline count for the axles is the same.

Re: 12 bolt rear end carrier assy. Question

It should be fine. To my knowledge the 12 bolts were always 30 spline. But it must be for the same series gear as the one you are going from and to.

Talking Re: 12 bolt rear end carrier assy. Question

I found a 1964 C 10, 12 bolt posi rear end, physically, identical, but two exceptions: 17 spline axles and the posi unit was rare, made by "Dana" the only other Chevy to use this carrier was the 64 Corvette. I was looking forever for rebuild parts for this carrier, but every place I called said no one makes parts for these anymore, even "Randy's Ring and Pinion" etc...
But, Corvette restoration companies do have clutch kits for the 64 model unit. The second exception is the track bar mount is an ugly sheet metal bracket welded to the axle tube, -vs. Center of the housing.but, everything else bolts right up, even the ring and pinion...bearings...etc.
Hth,
Ben
