np 203 part time conversion help
Pulled a what i'm sure is a np203 from a trunk in a junkyard today and need help identifying if it might have had the part time conversion done previously. Obviously there's no way to tell from the outside, but what can i do to confirm? If it's been converted there should be 4 shift positions now, or still 5? Any help would be appreciated.

Re: np 203 part time conversion help
The Np203 is afull time transfer case all four wheels receive power at all times. The shift pattern for this is:
Front towards the dash. Low Loc Low N HI Hi Loc With this Hi is your normal driving position. All four tires are driven, but the front and rear axles are driven independent from each other. They are free to turn at what ever speed. This is done thru a differential in the transfer case like the one in your axle , by shifting to Hi Loc you are still in Hi range, but, the front and back axles are now locked together and turn at the same speed. The Lo and Lo Loc only using a lower range gear in the transfer case. There are few different kits made over the years , 1st locking hubs are now able to disconnect your front axle from the wheel. Front towards the dash Lo Loc Lo N 2 HI HI Loc The HI Loc has become 2 HI. The differential in the transfer case has been"disconnected" so it will not drive the front axle.
