temp gauge

hello all,

my temperature gauge recently has been bouncing around erratically without cause. i thought the temperature wire sensor was loose and was causing it to bounce around but it wasn't. do you guys think its the gauge? or could it be something else causing it to bounce around.

Check to see if your wire meted against your exhaust

just checked, the wire seems to be intact

May need to pull your gauge out and check the grounding circuit

Could be a bad sender.
Ground the sender wire and your guage should peg. If you want to really check it out, get about a 200 ohm resistor, ground one end, and attach the other end to the sender wire. Your guage should be steady around 200ish degrees (give or take, doesn't matter what it reads, but that should give you a scale reading) and go for a drive. If the needle stays put, your guage and wiring is just fine.

okay so i bought a new gauge because the old one turned out to be bad. installed the new one and thought it would start working correctly but it did not move at all. tried it again the next day thought maybe it just needed to settle in and it began moving, the needle moved to the hot side and stayed there. i would rev the engine a little bit and the needle would start going down but as soon as i stopped revving it would go back to hot. i took the temp wire off did the same thing and had the same results. any ideas on what it could be? the printed circuit seems to be okay, but should i change it?

I too would test/replace the sending unit before messing with the printed circuit.

Why don't you test out like I outlined? But at this point, might as well just change the sender.

Try sender first...
