What to do with my naked floor

After getting blurry-eyed from reading past posts about floor insulation, it's time to do something with the bare floor in my truck. Having put in new window seals, the wind noise has diminished significantly, so, turning my attention to the floor is next. I don't have a radio and don't intend on adding one. Therefore the cab doesn't have to be like a sound studio. Those of you that have used the peel-and-seal stuff from the Big Box stores, are you happy with your results? I'm going with an ACC carpet with the mass underlayment and am curious about what to use on the naked floor. Being retired and on a very tight budget, money is definitely a major concern

What I'm looking for is info from those who are actually driving their trucks, not so much from those still in the build process. Thanks

This has worked very well, easy to apply and cheap .. Noico Black 80 Mil, peel and stick, it's less than 1.75 a foot, I think you can find it at Amazon ..

Re: What to do with my naked floor

The stuff from Amazon looks like a good product. I had some FatMat left over from a previous job, so I used that. Then I put the original black tar mat installed from the factory back in. After that, I put a layer of the foiled insulation and then the new carpet.

Another pic. Ready for the new carpet at this point. I even lined the inside of the doors with the FatMat. I will say, it made a big improvement with the sound overall inside the cab & doors.

What's the total sqft that you used ... per layer?

Well ****, you had to go and ask me a technical question that I don't know the answer to, lol. If I did know how much I needed at the time when I did this, I don't remember now. The foil backed insulation at LMC comes in a 6 ft piece. I needed more than that, so if you go to Home Depot online, it comes in 3 different sizes. So get it from there and you can always use it in other places. The best thing to do is just roughly measure the inside floor space and you can get an estimate on sq.ft.

Re: What to do with my naked floor

Red, I'll check that Amazon stuff out. Thanks. I really don't need to make the cab quiet as a tomb, so many layers of "stuff" isn't a necessity. Being that the truck will be a cruze nite special, and maybe haul some furniture or run dump errands, long trips aren't in the forecast, especially with the windows up. Besides, if I get stupid with the gas pedal, I wanna hear it sing

Looking at it on Amazon. So, the exposed side is kind of like a soft rubber mat?

Yep, it's Butyl rubber, which is a synthetic rubber, use a hair dryer to make it more pliable to work with, just peel and stick it..

I used the peal and seal from lowes on a 71 I had, it made a huge difference, it was cheap, and it never made the cab smell funny. I plan to use it again on the 80 I am working on now.

I used this also after I ran out of the FatMat. I only had a small amount to do, to finish the job, mainly the back of the cab behind the seat (post #5). The card board tool holder covered up the foil. Well I covered that in speaker box carpeting. I really didn't notice a difference in the material, smell, thickness from the FatMat. And your right, it's much much cheaper.

What Home Depot has, is the foil backed insulation:

Lowes has the peel & stick stuff:

Re: What to do with my naked floor

I used a sticky back/foil face product from Lowes made by Frost King. It was around 17.00 per roll and I used 2 of them. It was easy to use and I am happy with it. It is located in the HVAC area.

Is this product more for sound control or its insulation properties? What was the cost to do your CC?

Does any of the Home Depot or Lowes style stuff smell like tar? I almost picked up some at Lowes last night, but it had a STRONG odor.

The peel & stick from Lowes.
http://m.lowes.com/pd/Peel-&-Seal-In...ashing/1018733

No it doesn't smell, not anymore than the FatMat anyways. Once it's down you won't smell it at all, especially after you put the jute material down over the peel & stick. The jute material is what you can get at Home Depot.

Re: What to do with my naked floor

I honestly don't remember how many rolls i used. I will say that the truck was absolutely quite and didn't have that aluminum can sound when you shut the door. I'm sure the new owner appreciates it as well!

There was no odor when it was 100 degrees in the summer right before i installed the carpet. It was a pretty simple install. I'm sure i was a little more anal than the average guy but it didn't take all that long. t would do it again, as soon as i find me another Crew!
