XM Radio Antenna Mounting Location?
So I have this Sirius XM radio antenna for my kenwood head unit that is installed in my '57. I was wondering if anyone else has a similar antenna and where you mounted it? I want to put it in a spot that is not too noticable but still will get good reception. The base is magnetic so I can obviously just take it off and throw it in the truck when i get to shows, but it would be nice to find a good spot that i can just leave it alone. Pictures would be much appreciated!!

Re: XM Radio Antenna Mounting Location?
Mine is mounted (50 Chevy) in the left rear stake pocket. Bent a 90 in some sheet metal and screwed it to the inside of the pocket, ran the antenna wire through the pocket, mounted the antenna to the sheet metal, done. the reception is awesome.

Re: XM Radio Antenna Mounting Location?
if it works behind glass, try the back window or the corner of the dash
if not i like the stake pocket idea

Re: XM Radio Antenna Mounting Location?
I tried it in the corner of the dash but it didnt seem to get good enough signal. Im assuming the glass and overhang from the roof mess with the signal. So i dont think the back window would work because the antenna would be facing inside the truck (top is rounded and bottom is flat with magnet). I do like the bed stake idea but the problem is, i dont have any stake pockets lol.

Re: XM Radio Antenna Mounting Location?
I have run them in various vehicles on the center front dash behind the windsheild has worked fine in my 98 GMC, 87 Buick Regal, and 95 Ford Explorer......but on my 87 GMC the front corner dash hasnt worked good at all a lot of dropping out when pointing north.....Im gonna the center front dash on it since it was installed by Best Buy in the front corner....but the stake bed ideal sounds like good back up......do you have any pics of it installed in the stake bed hole?

Re: XM Radio Antenna Mounting Location?
I'll grab a picture this weekend of the cab pocket mount. Just to add, the top of the dash on my 80 C-10 never worked properly for an XM antenna. I have a tiny area exposed on the bed rail (stepside with a tonneau cover) near the back window, works much better.

Re: XM Radio Antenna Mounting Location?
They need to make them for vintage vehicles. The mast could be a dummy, with the base being the 'tenny. I don't know anything about it. Justa thought.

Re: XM Radio Antenna Mounting Location?
I too play an mp3 player through mine at times.....but I like sports/sports talk that i get on the xm.......plus on the Power Tour I like to listen to sports talk in the morn till 9 or 10 then switch to all 80s/90s it makes my truck seem like a time machine while cruising.......nothing like an old vehicle with time appropriate music and the open road with a few thousand other older vehicles...

Re: XM Radio Antenna Mounting Location?
Can the XM antenna wire be lengthened with a splice of ordinary stranded wire?

Re: XM Radio Antenna Mounting Location?
The cable is plenty long. I don't think you can splice it anyway.

Re: XM Radio Antenna Mounting Location?
Don't tell anyone, but I am thinking of a much longer vehicle than an AD or TF.

Quick check on eBay, the cables are 23 feet and an extension cable of 20 feet is also available.
