Wheel/tire question for 1971 GMC

I have a chance to buy a set of used Torque Thrust II's for my truck. They are 505's (2 piece I think?) 15x8 with 3.75" offset. My truck is stock height. My question is will these work and what would be the best size tire? I am thinking 255 70 15's for the tires all the way around. I am new to this and want to make sure these wheels will work. Thanks!

Here is a pic. 1971 GMC swb, 350, 3 speed column shift, 100% stock original except for a new steering wheel. Still wondering about the 15x8 torque thrusts. Anyone?? Thanks

Re: Wheel/tire question for 1971 GMC

After 2 days of searching the forum and reading as much as I could about wheels, backspacing, offset, etc., I think the wheels that I am looking at will work. They have 4.25" backspace and with 275/60/15's or 255/60/15's, should clear everything with no problems. If I'm wrong, someone please correct me! Here's a couple of my driving project. One as it is now, and one from the day I brought it home.

4" backspace is usually the max on a 5" wheel before you have rubbing issues up front.
Are you sure of the backspace numbers?

Re: Wheel/tire question for 1971 GMC

That's the same backspacing as my old AR Hopsters. Yes, they will work great stock height or lowered.

This pic is only lowered 1" front 2" rear.

same wheels, lowered 3.5/5

Re: Wheel/tire question for 1971 GMC

I am not 100% sure of the 4.25 backspace. He said they were 3.75 offset. He may mean backspace instead of backspace. I am supposed to talk to the guy afterwhile. This has been an eye opener for me! So much for just picking out wheels and tires and calling it good!

Re: Wheel/tire question for 1971 GMC

Standard backspacing on most aftermarket 15x8 wheels is 3.75". Many people get offset and backspacing mixed up

Re: Wheel/tire question for 1971 GMC

I called him and he said the offset is 3.75, but I bet he is meaning the backspace. I am going to check them out and pick them up in a couple of days. Thanks
