Re: My 1980 square build thread and life story. Ls/4500
Making progress! Got the 6.0/nv4500 in Wednesday, got the 04 Tahoe hydro boost system modified to fit the square body firewall, t case put in, got my fuel tank sump finished, bought a new gas gauge and sender, new motor mounts put in, new trans mount and modified the trans crossmember for the nv4500, new floor shifter put in for the driver side drop 241, picked up a dodge front driveshaft from the local yard, fit perfect. Filled the trans and engine full of fluids, picked up a new inline precision pump, re sealed the tcase, etc etc etc.
I also did some performance mods. Got the 228r cam in the 6.0 with lifters and pump, new BTR platinum spring kit with titanium retainers, and I cut the truck intake in half and ported it then plastic welded it back together. Now to order the pieces to build my back driveshaft! Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: My 1980 square build thread and life story. Ls/4500
Thanks! It's getting their, getting tired of working on it, need to drive it haha.
Tonight I got my wiring harness de pinned from all the 80e wiring, and repinned in the cruise control wires and new fan relay controls. Got the front driveshaft finished bolted in with grade 8 hardware, front serp belt on, passenger side head drilled and tapped to 3/8 npt for the manual temp gauge, ready to install the fuel tank in the bed now aswell. Getting real close! I also picked up some 2 1/2 exhaust to the back that I'll be running with factory 06 gto mufflers and tips that I have. Should be nice and deep. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: My 1980 square build thread and life story. Ls/4500
Got the pcm mounted in the new location, robbed a fuse and relay panel from a 92 Grand Prix, works perfect. Got the wiring all soldered together for cruise. Got the harness laid over the engine and All hooked into it, aswell as the correct plug for the 241c wires onto the harness.
Progress! Tomorrow I'm going to get the radiator in and the fans on and wired up, and hopefully get the fuel tank in and mounted so I can get the fuel system done. Posted via Mobile Device |

Fuel tank in, fuel system wired up, tune done, cruise completed in the cab, hydro master mounted, headers built, and it's running!!!! Sounds good open header, can't wait to hear it with exhaust.

I've been kicking butt on it, especially for working 45 hours a week. But I miss my truck haha. Thank you!

Re: My 1980 square build thread and life story. Ls/4500
Well, got it driveable, but the clutch is slipping horribly, it's a known good clutch that was behind the sm465 with no issues. Not amused, will be investigating this evening.

Re: My 1980 square build thread and life story. Ls/4500
Cool build and story. I'm working on putting a nv3500 in mine. I'm assuming you have a hydraulic clutch with the 4500, how did you go about mating the master to the pedal?

Re: My 1980 square build thread and life story. Ls/4500
I actually used the speedometer cable hole for my master, which isn't going to work. I need to move it up appx 1". I welded a 3/8 bolt to the clutch pedal and used that for the masterpiece

Re: My 1980 square build thread and life story. Ls/4500
Ok that's what I was thinking to. I wanted to use the hydraulic clutch pedal set but I'm not paying the price everyone wants for them. It cant be that difficult to make the manual ones work.

Re: My 1980 square build thread and life story. Ls/4500
Well, after much talking with my father, we decided this truck isn't real practical for a family of 4, potentially 5, and decided to turn it into a crew cab. I'm 3/4 of the way do with that, 12v crew cab. We are going to call it brownie 2.0 haha. I'll start a build thread in the build thread section tonight.

Re: My 1980 square build thread and life story. Ls/4500
I've got the whole truck stripped, por15 the frame inside and out, interior out and vacuumed, crossmember made, King pin 60 up front Dana 70 out back, 52" front spring swap, going to fire it up tonight for the first time. Did a flatbed this time around. Very happy
