73-80 Steering Column in an AD??

Anyone ever use a column out of a first gen squarebody C10 before? I'm considering using one for my project and am just curious if it's been done before I drop the coin on buying one.

They seem like they would be a good option since the earlier ones did not have the bulky multi-function switch and don't have the shift selector on them either like the 67-72 trucks do.

that's what i used in mine. i had to fab up a mount bracket for the center support along with the brake booster assembly all in one. came out nice and solid. i liked the column due to the fact that it did not have the shift indicator.

Nice! Yea, the main reason I want to use it is because it seems to be the best way to get the smooth column without spending a fortune.

Are you using a gearbox or rack and pinion? How did you adapt the column to your truck?

Re: 73-80 Steering Column in an AD??

I used a universal brake pedal assembly through fire wall type, (pic) then welded a bracket mount to bolt through the underneath dash then used the mount that came with the column. i will have to take a picture and post it when i get home tonight. if you look at the front part of the bracket shown that is where i welded a bracket that mounts through holes under dash. i looks clean and very solid. i am using the S10 steering gear box
