cucv owners
Specifically, M1031. My oldest son just bought one of these. Not running but complete. Going to see if we can get the 6.2 fire up and see what is up with the generator and compressor. Anything to look out for? Thanks,

Re: cucv owners
Don't use starter fluid to get it started.
Look up the starter relay mod to avoid having the less than adequate factory relay stick resulting in the starter being stuck on. I could go on and on about the cucv electrical and fuel system and the quirks of both but they are all covered at www.steelsoldiers.com. |

Re: cucv owners
We got her fired up today, 2 new batteries, fuel filter and some clean diesel. Also, checked the front axle, she has a trac lock, I believe it is called. Also, has the Detroit locker in the rear. Only shows 21450 on the odometer. The generator has 350 hours. Going to work on it next.
My son was toying with a Cummins swap, but she runs good, he might hold off. Anyways, depending on what he does, I might start a build thread. I will get some pics on here soon. I made a video of it running, search "cucv start up"

Re: cucv owners
Have fun with it! They are some cool trucks, but always something to tinker on (that's not necessarily a bad thing). Yes, definitely do the Doghead starter relay mod. We also did the glowplug sys changes...got rid of the big resistor on firewall, new glowplugs & put a pushbutton glow plug switch (deleting the card) & new relay there. Simple items to do, that the purest don't like, but I believe save a lot of headache in the long run. Steel Soldiers is an awesome forum too!

Re: cucv owners
You've got the Holy Grail of CUCV Axles - Congrats!
I had a bunch of starting issues on a CUCV I recently worked on for a friend. Starting on page 6 post #52, 54, I did the Push Button Mod http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthr...ot-Start/page6 Also did a few more mods to this on page 8 in #77 http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthr...ot-Start/page8 Also Highly recommend the Dog Head Mod!

The rims on the Jeep will have to go. 12" wide with 33s!

Re: cucv owners
My son dropped the tank on the M1031 and it was nasty. The inside looked good, it just had 3/4 full of real old diesel fuel. Cleaning it out will make a big difference.

Re: cucv owners
So he got the tank back on and it still started real hard so I went ahead and replaced the GP relay and she fired up as soon as I turned the key. Scared the crap out of me. My son is going to convert the 24V system to 12V and get new glow plugs. Going to do the starter relay upgrade first though.

Re: cucv owners
The 6.2 will run forever and not make enough power to blow up... I've been waiting for mine to blow up since 2008.

Re: cucv owners
We're having a hell of a time getting a title. I have a bill of sale, and all the paperwork notarized and the damn dmv wants me to prove the previous owner was indeed the previous owner! How the hell do I do that, where does it end!
My brother told me to get the VA state police to do a "VIN exam" and present that to the dmv too. (my brother is a local police officer) I know a guy that works with DRMO (military surplus) I am going to see if he can tell me who the M1031 was sold too back in 2008.

Re: cucv owners
If the previous owner got it from the gubbermint, he should of been issued a SF-97 form in his name to get a title. Since its issued to him, he has to get the title. Thats the only way to do it in PA.

Re: cucv owners
I'll agree with OLDCHEV4X4 on his comments. I bought a USAF Crew Cab V3500 from GSA and later sold it but had to get an Illinois title with the SF97 and then sign that title over to the buyer.

Re: cucv owners
I agree, I have a call into the GSA people to find out who bought the truck at auction. The guy we got it from drove to Connecticut to get it. He did not get a title because he was going to pull the axles. He then bought 2.5 ton axles and sold us the M1031. I hope I can get a copy of the SF97 and then contact the original non-army owner and see what I can do. Thanks.

Got rid of the swellman glow plugs for some AC delcos and she fires up with a flick of the key. I am stoked, I hope we can get the title.
