Heres my truck specs...ideal set up for bigger tires?

Hi all.

Just researching the suitability of my truck for lifting and bigger tires.

It's a very late square body crewcab longbed registered in 89.

Dana 60 front axle, 14 bolt rear. Warn locking front hubs, and the GT5 gearing option (4.10).

Will this set up work? I've bought a 6" lift kit, and I'm looking at 37" tires.

It's running a 350 small block, with less than 65K on it.

I won't be doing any towing, or offroading, it's purely a steady driver on our 'smooth' roads her in the UK!

Thanks for any input.

It sounds like the classic set up to me.

Would it manage to pull 44" tires?

I'm not attempting to fly round everywhere, it's just a big lazy toy for upsetting normal people in their plastic vehicles..

That's a lot of tire for 4.10's. I had 40 and 4.10's and my rpm was too low in 3rd for it to have any use able power. Regear ed to 5.13 and Its working for me.

The 4.10 gears would definitely be a problems for 40+" tires. You might get by with the 37's, but will notice a loss in acceleration and hill climbing.

Plus, I don't think you'll be able to fit 44 inch tires under a 6" lift, unless you want to hack the fenders. I've got I think a 9 inch lift (6" suspension and 3" body lift) and my 40s are still just a little too big. In fact, I'm kinda thinking 37 inch tires might be a little bit big for a 6" lift, you might be stuck with 35 inch tires.

Re: Heres my truck specs...ideal set up for bigger tires?

I had 13 inches of total lift when I had 40's on a '79 I once owned, had 3.73's and would smoke the tires ... I built a 400 for it that ran well of course the 4 miles a gallon it got about broke me, even at .70 a gallon.

^^^ 3.73s and smoked 40" tires?!

I've got 3.73s in my truck right now (previous owner) and this thing can't get out of it's own way. If I hit an uphill section, I have to pull over for cyclists.

Yes it did. Was a fun truck, the outside door handle was at my eye level, had a blast in that truck, never did get the front shaft hooked up ..
