Rally or Hubcap?

Do you think my '81 Scottsdale came with hubcaps or rally wheels?

Will it specify in the glovebox with a code?

Re: Rally or Hubcap?

I'd guess the full wheel covers, but there will be an RPO indicated on the sticker that will tell you.

Nice truck,my uncle had a 81 scotsdale he bought new.It had hub caps. From what I remember, rally wheels were more on the higher trim level trucks like Silverado or Sierra Classic.

Its either those or these. The sticker in the glove box will have a code for whatever were on it new.

It will specify in the glove box.

PO1 - full wheel cover
N67 - rally wheels

Rallys were available on any 1/2ton truck if you were willing to pay for them (ie, free flow option).

The attached link will show all the available content for your truck:

Those are PO1 full wheel covers. Should say that on your SPID.

Nice looking truck! I still can't believe we pulled ahead those mirrors from the GMT400 models and put them on there. I am still a little embarrassed about that.

Re: Rally or Hubcap?

Thanks Keith. I like that the mirrors are power and you dont see alot of them. I havent seen many with clear windows or rear defrost either. Not sure if the original owner would of had to order it this way, I bought from second owner.

Clear windows were base, which usually means they forgot to order (or didn't realize you had to order) the deep tint glass (lol).

Some export countries required clear glass, too, as a regulatory requirement.

Rear defrost was optional; they had to consciously pick that.

I haven't mentioned this yet, but for either of your trucks you can send $50 and the VIN to the GM Heritage Center and they will return to you the actual invoice (complete with pricing) for your specific truck.

Just depends on how curious you are. I did it for my '87.

Re: Rally or Hubcap?

Maybe consider a 15" stainless steel racing disc (moonies or similar). The disc in the image is an old school circa 1970s stainless steel disc that I test fitted on my 15x8 rally rim on a 255/70 tires with a 2.5" spindle drop and stock 1/2-ton coil springs.

Understood. Both vehicles being discussed here fall within those dates so I didn't think it needed to be mentioned.
