Window Glass Won't stay in track
I just changed the driver's window regulator in my 71 GMC. No more vise grips..Yay!
But..... Now my glass doesn't want to stay in the track. It rolls up fine, but when I try to roll it down the glass stays up and the track comes on down. Any suggestions? I thought it went back together ok. Gerry Albuquerque, NM |

Re: Window Glass Won't stay in track
Is the glass staying in the metal channel that connects to the regulator? And you made sure that all three rollers seated in the tracks?

Re: Window Glass Won't stay in track
Sounds like the gasket between the glass & "cradle" it sets in is gone. I assume you put your original glass into the new regulator?

Re: Window Glass Won't stay in track
You need to seal the window into the channel with glass setting tape. The truck shop in orange is where I was able to find some. Not sure how many other vendors carry it.

Re: Window Glass Won't stay in track
take the inside door panal off and roll the window down. see if the track comes off the rollers or if the window slides out of the metal retainer track. or maybe the rear track is too tight. loosen the bolts and readjust the window trackes that lead down into the door

Re: Window Glass Won't stay in track
I used a product from oreilys called window weld to seat the glass into the channel that holds the bottom of the glass. After doing so, roll the window up and don't touch it for 3-4 days at least.

Re: Window Glass Won't stay in track
Thanks guys. The glass is not staying in the lower channel. When I roll the window down, the glass stays and the channel comes down withe regulator. So it sounds like it needs some sort of glue or tape. I'll look into some of the products you suggested.
Thanks again Gerry |

Re: Window Glass Won't stay in track
I used an old bicycle tube in the channel when I swapped my regulator a while back. Hasn't come out yet.

Re: Window Glass Won't stay in track
Thanks for all the replies and advice. I used some super sticky weatherstripping adhesive and that did the trick.
