carburetor - does it really matter
I want to replace my carb - 2029223 on my 69 CST/10 350 engine AT with another Rochester rebuilt carb. Only problem is that I can't find another freshly rebuilt 2029223 on line, not even a 2029224. My question is, does is really matter if the carb is not the same #s? As long as the linkage is correct, and that the choke be the same, right? Of course it would have to mount correctly. Couldn't I just plug some of the vacuum ports if the new carb came with more than what mine brings. Oh.. and I don't want to rebuild mine, I need my truck and can't wait for someone to rebuild my carb. Thanks.. Will

The number isn't critical, as long as it has the fuel inlet in the same location. Make sure you get one for an automatic transmission, as you'll need the kickdown. You might even want to upgrade to a later year to get the electric choke (I think 76-up). Make sure the rebuilder knows what engine you're putting it on so they can jet it correctly.

Not to hijack this thread, but as further clarification on the op question. Can you put the jets, metering rods, etc out of the original carb in another q-jet body and have a carb that is calibrated to your engine?

Yes, as long as everything is good like well plugs and accelerator pump, tight throttle shaft bushings, etc. in the replacement carb...

is your carb correct or even origonal for your truck? dont get rid of it if it is, and keep it untill the new one proves its worth and pay with a credit card and state the replacement value if your carb gets "lost". some rebuilders are reputable some are not....bee carfull.

I don't mess with rebuilding cards because I have a shop that does great rebuilds for very reasonable price. Pull it off, drop it off, put it on, and go. Same carb stays with the truck. But I have switched them around for years never paying attention to numbers. There are different CFM Q-Jets, so watch out for that. My swapping has been 350 truck to 350 truck

I believe , most q-jets are 750s , the exception being a pontiac or olds specific , that is 850 cfm , and of coarse the old sqarebores that were 500 cfm

Local shop wanted $165 to rebuild. Bob stone replated everything ,rebushed throttle shaft
and paid return freight for $250. |
