No Holy Grail

I know there is a Craigslist findings thread for such finds, but this is a topic on it's own. A friend pointed out a listing that he thought I'd be interested in. The vehicle was listed as '68 G30 and I guess that was keeping the searchers away. It got changed to K30 by the time I looked and I got real excited that I had found my Holy Grail (or one of them). In the pictures it is obviously a rust free '67 GMC, it has 9.75" wheels, original paint, really low miles and price of $5k. Only a couple hours away, too! So, being a 1t that would mean I had found a '67 GMC Custom SRW C3500 NAPCO conversion rust free close to home for a practical price! I had owned a '71 NAPCO C/30 that was stolen and have hoped to find another similar since. I contacted the seller and it's a V6, which is cool for this truck. I had him send pictures of the front drive assembly and that is when the bubble burst. It's a production K2500. Still a totally cool truck, but with me needing a better daily driver more than a cool 4wd to baby, I'm letting it pass If anyone is interested, it's near Philadelphia, PA and was listed under Baltimore, MD.
I replied with all the info I know on the truck, so if the seller accepts my knowledge as true it should be getting changed to be listed as what it really is (but probably not)

Re: No Holy Grail

Wow! Help me understand as I'm still learning GM trucks. The K2500 is a later model 3/4 ton front axle assembly? Thats a sweet lookin old ride that would look good in any parade! Bummer for you Tim, but like you said, still a cool truck! ~Ghostrider~

Re: No Holy Grail

I would have sent a deposit if finding a better year 'round driver wasn't a priority right now. If it was a NAPCO? Screw it, I'll figure out a way to get by! also, already have the two I'd like to stick with for now till they get more done on them.

The truck is all factory original, except upfitting as fire truck. GMCs were 1500/2500/3500 in 67-72s while Chevys were 10/20/30. It's got the Dana44 closed knuckle drum brake manual steering it left the factory with. This set-up was used through '69. The truck would also has a 133" wheelbase if it was a 1t. GM never built 1t 4wds till 1977. I'm sure the VIN on this truck begins with KM2 for K-4wd, M-V6, and 2-3/4t. If it was a 1t the VIN would read C-2wd, M-V6, and 3-1t. I told the guy all this and haven't heard back. I also pointed out what makes it a '67 and not a '68, and offered to point out more in the interior if he would like me too. I hate passing it up, but I need a better work vehicle right now.

One could buy it and then build a house on the front bumper.

Does it have bigger tires on the front than on the back?

Be a nice truck for someone. Too bad it wasn't a NAPCO or Marmon Herrington 1-ton conversion though.

Don't think so , it's the rear bed wheel opening that make it look odd.

Re: No Holy Grail

The bed is dropped down from the cab. That front porch is great for casting from by the pond. Looks like the hubcaps are earlier Chevy. This is a nice top of the line '67 GMC K2500 Custom. I wonder if it was a Fenderside or cab & chassis.

That was my hope, to have found a C/30 SRW upfitted by one of the conversion companies. I had a '68 Chevy C/30 NAPCO like that for a short while. It was also a former fire truck but still had a Stepside bed. Word got around that I had this truck and a fella who had driven it contacted me and he just had to have it. The money was right and, more importantly, I saw his passion and love shine through and I knew he would fully appreciate it more than me based on his personal connection. I still had the '71 NAPCO I had started on, so it went to my friend's body shop and last I heard the buyer had a nice shiny red 9' 4wd pickup. It had no fire equipment with it when I got it. I think his intentions were to outfit it again as close to original as he could. I'm surprised I haven't seen it at the antique truck shows.

This GMC was owned by the seller's grandfather. The info is based on info the grandmother provided. If anyone is interested, this is an honest deal. I'm surprised it hasn't sold yet.
