64 Panhard Bar Question
My 64 C10 has an axle from a later truck (I think 65).
Apart from a 64 Pb being too long, the frame bracket is also at the wong angle so simply fitting a 65 PB is not a good solution. The previous owner had fitted a 65 bar and bent one end to make it fit. You can see from the picture how much the PB misses the bracket by. My plan was to make a new bracket fitted further back on the frame and shorten the bar, however, I now plan to make a new bracket and mount it on the "outer" side of the frame, (and not shorten the PB) this will give me the longest possible bar. Does anyone know why I shouldn't do this???? Any advice appreciated Ian

Here is a thread that deals with the same thing,although most of these deal with the relocated bar that bolts to the other side trailing arm mount. I am not sure why its too long though.

I took a pic of the 66 frame bracket today but can't get it to send to my email so I can't get it to the desktop so I can't post it here. Will try again tomorrow. If someone else can post a picture of a 65 or 66 bracket, feel free.
I had the same problem when I had a 64 diff in my truck for a while and had to stress the bar to get it to line up. Going the other way trying to line up a short bar to a 64 would probably be worse. |

I have the same problem on my 64. I located a junk rear end from a 64 and i'm thinking about cutting the axle bracket off the 64 rear and welding it on my 65 axle that is in it now.
I think this may be a good solution to the problem. What do you think? Ken |
