Parking light help

My park lights work when my switch is in the park light position but go out when the headlights are on. Is this normal?

Re: Parking light help

Judging by your name you have a 69 and if so then no yours should stay on with the headlights. I have a 69 and mine stay on. If I'm correct only 67 has it where the park lamps turn off when the headlights are on.

Re: Parking light help

My truck is a 69 but I have a painless wiring harness, aftermarket headlight switch (Advance auto parts) and I have a 68 front end on it. Would it be something in the switch or in the harness that makes the parking lights go out when the lights are on? I want them to stay on. Thanks for your help.

Pretty sure it would only be the switch. Inside the switch the contact point for the park lamps are probably shorter in length like the older model year trucks so when its pulled out all the way the go back off.

I found a thread that's some help as well.

Awesome tip! That's the same harness I have so this will fix mine right up. Thanks.

Re: Parking light help

Just a little history on park lights. They were originally intended for just that, parking. In some states it is technically illegal to drive with just the parking lights on (I called them "be cools" back in high school). They were used to let other motorists know that the vehicle was parked and not in motion.

There is your worthless tidbit for the day.

Wink Re: Parking light help

Somebody replaced the head light switch with a 67. They don't work when the head lights are on.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: Parking light help

Just FYI, moving the park light wire to terminal 3 in the connector took care of my issue.
