Was factory Power Steering available on '60-62?

I'm curious if power steering was available on '60-'62 trucks, and if so, how did the power steering pump mount?
They didn't have accessory mounting holes in the heads, and the holes on the front of the block that the passenger car PS pumps bolted to are used for the horseshoe mount on our trucks.

Yes, it was an option, I have had one setup and the drag link is different then the 64-66. As for the power steering pump, I don't think it was any different than 63-66 small blocks.

with the horseshoe mount is it possible to mount it there. with the 4 x 4 chassis and the front mount it seems a problem to mount the pump there. there was the optional side mounting if that truck had an a/trans and that would free up the front for the standard mounting of the p/s pump.
not arguing with you but trying to theorize the problem. in the next picture it shows the 235/261 eng and is the pump mounting on the side of the engine.
somewhere in that period of time and it may have been late 50s was not the pump run behind the generator?. I do remember seeing that setup

I had a mid 60's sbc with the horseshoe mount. The power steering pump will mount in the lower right side but you will have to grind away a portion of the horseshoe bracket. It can be done...

According to my literature, power steering was available in medium duty and heavy duty Chevrolet trucks from 60-62. 63 was the first year for power steering in a light duty truck.

Maybe it was just big trucks which is strange because they had the same engines and mounts.

I bought a kit for mounting at the front bolt holes (where the horse-shoe mounts) and added it to the horse-shoe. to the left you can see the piece i cut off the h/shoe.

that would still move the mounting bracket out a bit further. one could fab the complete mounting bracket in the same way though

I think technically the 1962 Gmc is the first year for power steering . I don't believe Chevy offered it like aero pointed out till 63. I have a 62 gmc out back with it. Like lt1 said it is different than 63-66 for the frame mounting bracket and center link. Earliest literature I've found on it is 1962 gmc. I can see a v8 automatic Chevy using it but not a manual v8.

couple more pics--I am running my water pump and alt belt on the middle groove for clearance, on one of the P/S pump bolts. Or Fab some side mounts.

That's a great solution, 61K10!

And really makes things easier for me putting PS on my '62K10. Hell, my '61 Suburban, too, since I'm running the stock T-bar front suspension and the horseshoe mount.

Before cutting up the horseshoe, I wanted to make sure there wasn't some kind of a factory set-up, and it appears there isn't.

For our K10, what years power steering box to I need to look for? I'm going to keep the short, factory leaf springs for now, though I did find a sway bar from a K5 Blazer last weekend. Steering box was out of it already.

ant 4x4 s/box (not 2wd) from at least 72-87. around 1980 they went to metric o-ring fittings instead of inverted-flair type. There are adapter fittings for the metric box if you have a Iv/f pump. or have custom hoses made.

As Kimble, said you can use adapter fitting/switch out the "flow control valve" on newer metric units to the older style. It is easy, just unbolt metric one and install the inverted flare one off older unit, maybe find in a recycle car/truck yard. That what I did. "There every where, there every where".

The upper valve in photos is the original one. They look different on the outside of the flow control part, however, the inside flow controlling hole is similar.

I was talking about the metric s/box. will take a pic as i have a metric o-ring box and a inverted flair pump. and yes you can change the pump fitting as one is like an AN fitting and the other is a inverted flair. Now can you take a metric pump fitting and put it in a non metric pump?
