Step Side rear cross sill removal?

My 72 short step has a roll pan with a recessed area for the license plate. Today, I removed the rollpan to install a rear bumper and found that the rear cross sill had been notched to accommodate the recess in the roll pan.

My question is
1. Whats the process to remove the rear cross sill and install a new one?
2. Can someone reference a source/part number for the rear cross seal.

Photo to show my issue.

I disassembled three of these beds and the rear most sill is bolted in except there are two tack welds - one on each side of the bed - that will have to be ground off / out to complete the removal. Probably take some wiggling / twisting to get it to come out while the rest of the bed is bolted together still though.
I'm sorry but I can't help out on the seal source / part number.
Hope this helps - if you still can't visualize what I talking about let me know and I will take a photo of a rear sill to show where the welds are located.

Jay, if it's not too much trouble a pic would be helpful. I thinking that the truck has new bed sides, front panel, and tailgate. So, perhaps I won't find any spot welds.
Thanks,
Kris

To answer your second question, you cannot go wrong with Mar-K parts. Looks like you need their part #100718.

Since its just a notch, have you thought about just bending up a sheet patch and welding it in?

I'd seriously consider this option too before pulling the rear seal. I would also recommend Mar-K's parts.

Re: Step Side rear cross sill removal?

Thanks guys. I think the best solution is to replace the part and paint. I'm not a body guy, but I have a great set of tools and can tear anything apart.
