2006 and 1971 suspension experiment will it work???? who knows!!!!
Well got a wild hair up my ass and going to see if I can do a lil parts interchange between various years of chevy/gmc suspension and see what I can come up with got a free 71 complete front 3/4 ton cross member dropped off the other day from another local truck guy up this way and going to see if it is possible to fit 2006 spindles to it. Currently awaiting a spindle ball joint taper reamer to come in right now then I can see what can be done with this idea lol got the measurements from the 71 spindle and the 2006 spindle done so there is a possibility it could work just have to get the 2006 spindles tapers out to the 88-98 2 in/ft taper to see if this will be feasible

Re: 2006 and 1971 suspension experiment will it work???? who knows!!!!
Can you physically make it fit, I am sure you can but the geometry is going to be all wrong. 2" taller spindle is going to make the camber curve WAY off. Your steering arm is in the wrong location which is going to cause some serious bump steer issues.
Before spending time and money on this, buy a good race car suspension fab book and do research on suspension geometry. There is a WHOLE lot to it then just making parts fit.

Mike thanks will look into that. I was looking at the spindle not as bolting in between the control arms but in bolting it in like the 06 mounts with both ball joints mounted downwards.

Looks to me like the measurements are like 1-1.5" difference and you will have to modify the LCA ball joint pocket.

Re: 2006 and 1971 suspension experiment will it work???? who knows!!!!
Tiny,
I have nearly gone blind reading all the spindle swap threads thanks for finding that for me and hoooolllyyyyyy shooot nice work there. looks like there may be something to it I like what he did with the upper control arms... so once I get the reamer in and a set of ball joints going to mount my 71 c20 cross member up where I can work on it easier and go to town. instead of building upper arm relocation mounts going to try mounting the lower a arm like the 06 factory did and see what i get love being able to experiment on stuff!!!! Never been much on reading and trying to apply it learn better by attempting and trying. Subscribed to his thread so can get up dates on any issues he might have Sean

Re: 2006 and 1971 suspension experiment will it work???? who knows!!!!
could u flip the upper balljoint upside down and run it up wards to save lowered ride height, not sure if the would be an issue with both ball joints facing up, I know with 2" drop springs my UCA are flat

Re: 2006 and 1971 suspension experiment will it work???? who knows!!!!
Beef that would put the spring real a kilter in there i wont lose any ride height with both ball joints pointing down maybe a 1/2 inch at the most. Just got the taper reamer in so once its tore down cann get to work and see what i get.
