This might have been posted recently, but Search didn't turn up anything. I pulled this from another forum. Figured some of you folks bought one of these and should try to benefit.

Today I received a notice of litigation against several compressor
companies, concerning false claims of advertised horsepower. Most of us knew that these companies were lying through their teeth about the rated horsepower, but what choice did we have as four companies make practically all of the retail compressors that are available. The four companies are Campbell Hausfield,
Devilbliss, Ingersal Rand, and Powermate who also private label their products for Craftsman, Husky, Delta, etc.. The litigation is still pending but should wrap up by the end of the year.

Basically, if you have bought a compressor between August 1,1996 and January 30, 2004, you are probably entitled to a $50.00 gift certificate for an air tool manufactured by the offending company. It's not much, but is a considerable ruling against these companies considering the number of compressors sold during that time period.

Sounds like another frivlous law suit to me. Some money hungry lawers sapping the system.

My son bought a craftsman during this time period. It went bad and then we bought a Curtis, so it does not qualify.

Correct me if I'm wrong- Assuming the tank preasurizes to what the specs say, horse power is significant only in how quickly it can preasurize the tank, right? So unless I'm using a lot of air fast, it's not really an issue in terms of what tools a compressor can power. So why'd these guys want to people to believe their pumps were' bumpin' & grindin' with more mussel than they had?

Hever buy a compressor on HP. Buy it on CFM. CFM is what is important to a air tool The more CFM at 90psi the better. it means the compressor can recover faster. My garage sale find 3hp Campbell Hausfeild is rated a higher CFM at 90 the the 6hp black max at Home depot.

For those of us who do sandblasting or other things the bigger the engine and compressor the more cfm it usually makes and the more air you get. But to most it really dont matter. If you dont know about it then it probably wont affect you.
