Bittersweet purchase today...

So about a week ago a gentleman in Georgia saw a picture I shared on a Facebook group of my 72 Cheyenne Super K10 and messaged me asking if I'd consider selling it. He indicated that he's specifically been looking for a good shortbox K10 Super to do a full factory restoration on. My response was the same one I've given everyone else that has asked if it was for sale: "Not really, but almost everything is available for the right price." Well, after a few days and a few offers, he got to a price that I felt was fair and that would leave me with enough funds for a replacement toy and some projects that we've been looking at doing here at the house. So as of next weekend, the K10 Super will have a new home where it'll get the restoration I wish I could afford!

So today I took a little road trip down towards Memphis to look at a 71 Cheyenne Super Longhorn. The same truck was discussed previously on this post:

Turns out it was a really clean truck for the money, so I went ahead and slapped the cash down and drove home smiling! Now I have a week to wait to go back with a trailer and pick it up. As discussed in the previous thread, the SPID is a reprod but I'm pretty confident it was a Super originally. No idea how many of the options were added later, and it shows medium olive under a few spots of flaked paint in the bed and on the firewall, but I couldn't care less at this point. I'm excited to have a highly optioned driver that just needs a little elbow grease and not much money! It runs and drives incredibly well, so I'm going to just clean up the interior, buff the paint out, replace the bed wood, and enjoy the crap out of it!

Here's the album of all the pictures I have so far.

I think he's just south of Atlanta. I don't know if he's a forum member, but I'm certainly going to suggest that he joins!

Looks nice! I think it's common to get a quick replacement. It's like a addiction.......

Re: Bittersweet purchase today...

Busy weekend! Drove the three hours down to Jackson, TN after work yesterday to pick the truck up. Turns out a longhorn jusssst fits on the longest uhaul car hauler (the one with a 148" deck). We did have one little snafu with the trip. The uhaul guy wanted to hook the trailer up before we departed. He did so and we had no troubles at all... until I started pulling the truck up onto the trailer. The tongue rose up off of the ball and nailed the tailgate. The guy had failed to tighten down the retainer than keeps the trailer on the dang ball! All things considered, we were lucky that it happened then and not on the freeway on the way down...

Uhaul should not only replace that gate but comp you on the rental for risking your skin like that. Nice truck brother!

Re: Bittersweet purchase today...

I had the same thing happen to me with a uhaul tow dolly. I was helping a buddy rescue his car on the highway. I backed up to the dolly the guy put it on the ball, I did a quick check of the chains and light hookup and took of down the freeway. I made it about a mile and hit a bump and all heck broke loose behind my truck. Was more scary than anything as the only damage was the dolly tongue taking a gouge out of my rear axle. Come to think about it also happened at the boat ramp, someone went thru the parking lot and messed with a bunch of trailers. Loaded my boat up and the dam trailer came loose from the ball scared the crap out of me.....I now check the hitch at every stop and let no one hook any thing up

Re: Bittersweet purchase today...

Yeah, we knew better than to take off without checking it ourselves, but the guy that hooked it up was an old buddy of my friend that was driving me down to get the truck. Just one of those things that we should have caught but we trusted the guy and were anxious to get rolling. I'm going to talk to them on Monday and see if the optional insurance that I purchased will help with the tailgate repair or replacement. It really sucked, but it was better than having it bounce off while we were driving for sure.

I went ahead and started a build thread for the truck. It isn't really a build per se, but I'm cleaning it up to enjoy it as a pretty clean driver. It sat in a barn for a long time before the previous owner bought it in 2014. It in pretty great shape all in all, but just has a lot of barn filth that needs cleaned up.
