Vacuum pod on back of 59 dash, Speedo

There is a vacuum device on the back of my dash. The speedo cable screws into this which is screwed into the dash itself. There is about 10" of vacuum hose hooked up. I have no idea where this vacuum line goes.

I am sure someone here knows

Re: Vacuum pod on back of 59 dash, Speedo

is there any other linkage etc attached or just a vacuum pod? post a pic so we can see what you have there. what year/model of truck? was it a commercial unit or farm unit at some point-like maybe some sort of governor attachment or high idle throttle control for a pto, cruise control? is there linkage to throttle linkage? is there an output for the speedo cable as well or just an input?

The vacuum pods were off of a truck with a two speed rear end. That pod has some gears in it that switches the speedo so it matches the actual road speed when splitting shifts. Over on www.stovebolt.com they can tell you more about it. Its a rather hard to find item

Thats exctly what is for....
dwcsr is right
the line goes to the switch located on the shift knob a button if you will
when you shift the two speed rear end from lo/hi vacuum is supplied from the tank through the "Switch" to the vacuum diaphragm on the rear also to that gizmo on the back of the speedo to match road speeds
.
look in big bolt( stoveboltforum) or here in Heavy Haulers (67-72chevytruck) if you need more info......Sp
