Think I am loosing a fuel pump - anything else to check?
Lately on some local drives the truck (71 GMC 350 4bbl) has been starving for fuel. Its usually after a bout of acceleration. I filled it up with gas yesterday and took it for a drive. It bogged on me several times in a row, which rules out that it was a vapor lock scenario.
I think I am just loosing a fuel pump - but was curious if there is anything else on these fuel systems that can be problematic clogged screens, rusty tanks etc. thanks Derek.- |

All of the above. There's a small filter in the carb right where the fuel line connects that can plug up with sediment or rust. Id check there first before diving into the pump. There's also a sock in the tank on the pickup a little less likely but also possible. Also there could be other filters in line along the way that have been added by previous owners that like any filter can plug up. Check all the filters first.

I agree with the Old Guy. Check the filters first. Look at the fuel pump with the engine running. If there is fuel puffing out the vent hole it is a sure sign the pump is bad. Check the oil in the crankcase. If it is over full & real thin, fuel is getting in it from the pump. If you replace the pump its a good idea to change the oil.

mei'd check your gas cap by removing it when it happened and if you here a loud wooshing noise when you remove the cap that there is your problem

No whoosh noise, I filled it up yesterday. Check oil, was a half a quart low. I have been meaning to swap the carb over for another qjet - so I can check the filter. It still feels like a pump as I was able to starve it it consistently.
