4 Years Later - First official drive!

I still want to swap out the windshield, and there will always no doubt be a couple of "little things left", but I've had it out and about for a hundred miles or so, shaking it down. I didn't find anything to fix, so this is it's first "all passed" test drive!

That is Awesome! I'm currently doing a Cheyenne with roof markers and really wasn't crazy about them. Now I love 'em. Beautiful Truck

Good looking rig. I like the clearance lights on the 3/4 tons. Does it have the tool box on the passenger side front bottom of the bed?

Nice looking truck man. Way to go. Mine's almost ready to go too. Just got to get the state patrol to give it a scratch n sniff so i can have a title.

As I've said before... great truck and great work! Now, just enjoy it for a while before making any drastic changes.

Absolute beautiful truck man! I love the Chevy's but I'm partial to the GMC's. Congrats on getting her (done) and making the maiden voyage with no problems. That is an accomplishment to be proud of. Enjoy it as often as you can.

Oh I didn't mean there were no problems, just no -remaining- problems. I had the trans die and a couple of leaks, so it wasn't without incident! But after getting it towed last month I thought I should follow up and let everyone know it's finally back out in final form!

Thanks for the kind words!

It drives like a new '70 GMC would have driven, I imagine. Kinda sloppy on-center steering on the highway, but I imagine that's not all the uncommon (and I have radials, not bias ply!).

If I had to complain, really the only annoyance is the idle speed - hard to keep it where it's not too high but doesn't get too low when the AC turns on. Pretty minor.

Nope, other than the correct windshield and maybe an alarm system (way too easy to steal with a screwdriver) no plans to change anything ever! Might add options, but no LS going in or anything like that :-)

I'm sure you already are aware of this, but just in case you aren't, there should be an idle bump up solenoid on your carb to increase RPM when the A/C compressor clutch engages.

Not in 1970, unfortunately. In fact I don't think I've even seen an idle solenoid on these, just an anti-diesel circuit with the AC clutch.

I asked in a thread about a month ago, because I was surprised it didn't have one, but I guess none of them did (or perhaps not until later in 71/72, not sure).
