Re: Aquiring paper for my truck ...Wash.State

I have the same problem.I to live in Washington State.I got a 1958 chevy truckout of a field in Oregon, the truck had a plate,I went to DMV in oregon (just across the river from me)no problem they gave the title, after vin number inspection. I got title only because I was out of state, then tranfered it to washington.easy..so I did it again with a 1941 chevy car, this one had no plates.Washington want a person to bring a complete car for inspection,I dod not want to 1.invest any money in a car that someone might take 2.I did not want to wait 3years.So I went back to Oregon I have not got title yet but they have been very helpful, they do a vin number inspection on the spot.

Well I'm being told by the Seller of my truck that some guy in the Calif DMV said to stamp the numbers from the Cal title on the frame and then have the Utah DMv inspector come inspect it?? Not right is it? that to me would be like counterfeiting a title.

In Utah you can take it to an inspection station or call your local police to come inspect it, mine was the later.

Re: Aquiring paper for my truck ...Wash.State

Mine looked like it could be a problem gettig titled - in Texas 55 and earlier is registered/titled by the engine number. Mine was picked up as an abandoned project with no title, no vin plate, and no engine. The engine I installed was a Cummins diesel from a '94 Dodge. The engine did not have the truck vin anywhere on it becuase Cummins ships the engines to Dodge and Dodge installs them. I started the paperwork for a bonded title. One of the first steps was get a vin inspection from county's appointed inspector. I called him and told him what I had. He said he couldn't wait to see it. He came out the next day, did a rudamentory inspection, told me specifically who to speak with at the DVM - another gearhead/car guy that loved the project. He said it was obvous what I was doing, not trying to claim someone else's vehicle as my own. He took my appliction for a bonded title and a surety bond a couple of days later, and my title arrived in the mail a couple of weeks later. Bottom line is they can make it real hard, or they can make real easy. All depends on who you are dealing with.
