Vertical drip rail ???

While doing some rust repair on a 65 I bought as a driver
Replaced all 4 cab supports, both inner and outer rockers and inner floors and toe kick panels. I noticed the vertical drip rail on drivers side of cab just in front of the door was rusted bad around the spot welds all the way down. I took one off a parts cab I have but wanted to ask... has anyone ever just taken them off and not replaced them? Looks kind of clean without them but was curious if their function out weighs the look...

I also took mine off because of rust and I honestly don't think they are going back on. I like how it looks with out them.

Re: Vertical drip rail ???

I removed mine and ground the rivets that held it inplace. If your top drip rail gets filled up, the water runs down the door side. That vertical rail is supposed to prevent the water from rolling over into the kick panel or past the weather seal into the window channel.

If you have tight fitting doors and good (i.e. not 30 year old) weather seals, its less of a concern. If your truck never sees water, then its not a concern at all.

Re: Vertical drip rail ???

Replacing mine and need a closeup of the rail near roofline or perhaps measurement. I forgot to measure before i removed the old ones. Thanks
