Rear brake drum fit after turning down axle hub question

Newbie question here so be gentle.
I'm planning a front disc brake conversion on my '63 C10 and will be going to 17 inch wheels. The center hub on the new wheels is too small for the rear axle hub so I was planning on having the axle hub turned down to fit the wheels. I've read of others on this site going this route. My dilemma is this--the rear drum center hole for the axle hub will then be larger than the hub and I assume this could be a fitment issue and allow water/dirt inside the drum. How are those of you who have gone this route dealing with fitment? Are there drums available with a smaller center hole that can be used? Can the "hub rings" be used to solve the problem?

I'm using 6 spoke Vision 141 Legend wheels with center bore of 87.10mm

Leave a step shoulder for the drum

That sounds like a great idea! Thanks for the advice. BTW, I lived in 29 Palms for a couple of years when I was in the Navy. Got to get back there for a visit some time.

Re: Rear brake drum fit after turning down axle hub question

Small world I have relatives in S.falls and Lennox .... 29 Stumps has not changed much LOL I am also putting 17s on a 63 and have to use like 1" spacers front and rear so the smaller center hole wont matter on mine...... Are the wheels going to fit the front hubs/rotors you are using? you could also have the center hole bored out in the wheels

When I turned mine I left a step just big enough for the drum. You can take a measurement with the drum on the axle and cut it just a little less than that. With the front disc swap I have had no problems with wheels fitting.
